Sod, tree work and drainage in The Colony, Texas
The Colony is home. The office is here and so is Geoff — if you are in The Colony you are not a service area to us, you are the neighborhood.
What The Colony yards deal with
The Colony is a mix of older 1980s and 90s builds near the lake and newer construction out toward The Tribute. The older streets have mature post oak and live oak that have never been structurally pruned, and the shade under them is the single most common reason we get called about dying grass here.
Lots closer to Lewisville Lake drain differently than the rest of the city. On the peninsula side we see more standing water after heavy rain and more washed-out grade on sloped yards, which is why drainage comes up more often in The Colony than anywhere else we work.
Neighborhoods we work in
The Tribute, Stewart Peninsula, Legend Crest, Austin Waters, Sunrise Bay, Hidden Cove, and the older streets off Blair Oaks and Memorial.
What we do in The Colony
Sod installation — bermuda, zoysia and St. Augustine, with grading and soil prep for the clay. This is the bulk of what we do here.
Tree trimming — structural pruning and canopy thinning, often the actual fix when grass will not grow underneath. Healthy oaks are pruned in December and January because of oak wilt.
Drainage and grading — French drains, regrading and standing-water fixes before new turf goes down.
Tree and stump removal — hazardous leaners, storm damage, and stumps ground below grade.
The Colony note
The Colony is also where the Animal Shelter xeriscaping job was done — community work worth a project page of its own.
