Sod, tree work and drainage in McKinney, Texas
McKinney runs from century-old streets around the downtown square to master-planned communities that did not exist twenty years ago, and the yards are as different as the houses.
What McKinney yards deal with
Most of McKinney sits on blackland prairie clay — dark, heavy, and prone to swelling when wet and cracking when dry. Sod on this soil lives or dies on the prep underneath it, and on newer lots that prep was usually rushed by the builder.
The older neighborhoods near the historic district have big pecans and live oaks and the shade problems that come with them. The newer communities to the west are the opposite: young trees, full sun, and lawns that bake in August. Those two parts of the city need different grass, and we will tell you which one your yard actually is.
Neighborhoods we work in
Stonebridge Ranch, Craig Ranch, Tucker Hill, Trinity Falls, and the older streets around the historic downtown square.
What we do in McKinney
Sod installation — bermuda, zoysia and St. Augustine, with grading and soil prep for the clay. This is the bulk of what we do here.
Tree trimming — structural pruning and canopy thinning, often the actual fix when grass will not grow underneath. Healthy oaks are pruned in December and January because of oak wilt.
Drainage and grading — French drains, regrading and standing-water fixes before new turf goes down.
Tree and stump removal — hazardous leaners, storm damage, and stumps ground below grade.
McKinney note
Several McKinney master-planned communities, Stonebridge Ranch among them, have architectural review for landscape changes. If yours does, get the approval before the sod is ordered — we can give you the variety and square footage for the application.
